دولت کانادا هر بار به من جواب سر بالا می‌دهد
گفت‌وگو با مریم ملک‌پور در دهمین سالگرد زندانی شدن برادرش، سعید ملک‌پور

سلام خانم ملک‌پور، با سپاس از وقتی که در اختیار ما گذاشتید، سپاسگزار می‌شویم ما را در جریان آخرین وضعیت برادرتان آقای سعید ملک‌پور قرار دهید.
چهارم اکتبر ۲۰۱۸، ده سال شد که سعید بدون هیچ مدرکی که اتهامات واهیِ به وی نسبت‌داده‌شده را ثابت کند، در زندان به‌سر می‌برد. قبل از نوروز امسال، دادستان تهران، در ملاقاتی که با سعید در زندان داشت، به او قول داده بود که برای سال نو با ارائه یک میلیارد تومان وثیقه اجازهٔ مرخصی می‌دهد، حتی با مادرم تماس گرفتند و از او خواستند که وثیقه را تا قبل از سال نو آماده کند. متأسفانه این امر تا به امروز محقق نشده است. ابتدا بهانه آوردند که ضابط قضایی باید اجازهٔ رسمی بدهد و بعد از یکی دو ماه که سپاه – ضابط قضایی در پروندهٔ سعید – با درخواست مرخصی موافقت کرد، دادستان تهران این درخواست را رد کرد، که برای سعید و خانواده بسیار ناراحت‌کننده و ناامیدکننده بود.
حدود دو سال پیش که آقای مجید جوهری به ونکوور آمده بودند، اعلام کردند که پروندهٔ آقای ملک‌پور در دولت لیبرال فعال است. آیا هیچ تغییری از آن زمان انجام شده است و آیا دولت شما را در جریان اقدامات و مذاکرات احتمالی با ایران در این رابطه قرار داده است؟
دولت لیبرال تا به امروز حتی یک‌بار نام سعید را در رسانه‌ها یا هیچ‌جای دیگری عنوان نکرده است و تا به امروز با درخواست من برای ملاقات با وزیر امور خارجه یا آقای ترودو موافقت نشده است که بسیار بسیار ناامیدکننده است، آن هم برای دولتی که مکرراً حرف از حقوق بشر می‌زند. در واقع خیر، من با دولت جدید چندان ارتباطی ندارم؛ هر بار به من جواب سر بالا می‌دهند.
بهار سال گذشته، پتیشنی برای آزادی برادرتان راه‌اندازی کردید. چه تعدادی این پتیشن را امضا کردند و چه واکنشی از نمایندگان پارلمان یا دولت کانادا در خصوص این پتیشن مشاهده کرده‌اید؟
حدود دوازده هزار نفر تا به حال این پتیشن را امضا کرده‌اند. من مدتی در مورد پروندهٔ برادرم سکوت کردم، به این امید که شاید فرجی در پروندهٔ او بشود و به او عفو مشروط بدهند یا آزادش کنند، ولی هنوز هیچ پیشرفتی در این زمینه اتفاق نیفتاده است. و خیر، واکنش خاصی از نمایندگان مجلس در این خصوص ندیده‌ام، جز اینکه برای من و خانواده‌ام آرزوی موفقیت کرده‌اند!
تابستان امسال به پیشنهاد آقای گارنت جینیس، نمایندهٔ محافظه‌کار، طرحی در مجلس عوام تصویب شد که بر اساس آن از دولت خواسته می‌شد که همهٔ مذاکرات تجدید روابط با ایران را متوقف کند. در یکی از بندهای این طرح با نام بردن از آقای سعید ملک‌پور، از دولت کانادا خواسته شده بود که ایران را برای آزادی ایشان تحت فشار قرار دهد. نظرتان دربارهٔ این طرح چیست و آیا هیچ تأثیر مثبتی بر وضعیت برادرتان داشته است؟
حداقلش این بود که اسم سعید دوباره مطرح شد ولی من مطمئن نیستم که این طرح می‌تواند اثر مثبتی در پروندهٔ برادرم داشته باشد یا خیر. البته من امیدوارم که داشته باشد.
مردم و به‌ویژه ایرانیان ساکن کانادا، در این زمینه چه کمکی می‌توانند به شما بکنند و چه انتظاری از آنان دارید؟
هر کمکی اعم از نوشتن نامه به مقامات ایران، امضاء پتیشن و خبررسانی در شبکه‌های اجتماعی می‌تواند کمک بزرگی به سعید و من بکند.

Still No Clear Response from the Canadian Government
An Interview with Maryam Malekpour, Saeed Malekpour’s sister on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his arrest
Q: Ms. Malekpour, we thank you for having agreed to have an interview with us and would like to start off by asking you to update us on your brother’s situation.
A: October 4th of this year marks the tenth year anniversary of Saeed’s arrest on grounds of unfounded charges for which no concrete evidence has been presented. Prior to Nowruz (the Iranian New Year) of this year (i.e. March 21st), Tehran’s prosecutor general, in the course of a meeting with Saeed in prison, assured him that he would be able to go on leave for the New Year (ceremony) on a bail of one billion Toumans. Even my mother received a call demanding that she prepare the aforementioned amount before Nowruz. Unfortunately, to this day, there has been no sign that can lead us to believe that there will be any prison leave. Initially, they came up with the excuse that the bailiff has yet to grant official permission and when after a couple of months, the bailiff — in this case, the Revolutionary Guards — agreed to Saeed’s prison leave, Tehran’s prosecutor general rejected it. The whole process has taken a huge psychological toll on Saeed and his loved ones.
Q: Two years ago when Majid Johari came to Vancouver, he remarked that the Liberal Government was looking into Saeed’s case. Has there been any development ever since and has the government updated you on the possibility of any talks with Iran on the issue?
A: The Liberal Government has yet to mention Saeed’s name in the media and to this day, my request to meet either with the foreign minister or Mr. Trudeau himself has been turned down which is quite frustrating, especially, in view of the fact that the Canadian government has constantly claimed to be a staunch advocate of Human Rights. In other words, I have not been able to get along with the new government as I have yet to hear a concrete response to my repeated requests for a visit with the aforementioned officials.
Q: Last Spring, you launched a petition in support of your brother’s release. How many people have signed the petition and what has its impact been among Canadian MPs and the government overall?
A: So far, around twelve thousand people have signed that petition. For a while I remained silent regarding my brother’s case in the hopes that that may lead to an amnesty and ultimately, his release. However, there has been no breakthrough in his case, nor have I yet heard of any concrete reaction on the part of the MPs in this regard aside for the fact that they have wished me and my family all the best!
Q: This summer, Conservative MP, Garnett Genius, passed a bill in the House of Commons on the basis of which the government is to put an end to any talks aimed at a rapprochement with Iran. That particular bill has a clause that calls on the Canadian government to exert pressure on the Iranian government for the release of Saeed Malekpour. What is your opinion with regard to this bill and has it had any impact on your brother’s situation?
A: Its least outcome was that it brought renewed attention to my brother’s name. I have my doubts as to whether this bill could have any positive impact on my brother’s case, although I do hope that it will.
Q: Could people, particularly Iranian-Canadians, be of any help with regard to your brother’s situation and do you have any expectations from them?
A: Any kind of help, be it in the form of writing a letter to Iranian officials, signing the petition or spreading word on social media could go a long way towards helping Saeed and myself.
Q: Feel free to express yourself with regard to any other issue which you may wish to impart to our readers.
A: In the end, all hopes lie with the Canadian government in terms of exerting pressure on the Iranian government for Saeed’s unconditional release. It is not fair that he should languish in prison even for another extra day.
